Role
Systech have several exciting opportunities available to Quantity Surveyors who are interested in relocating to Australia. The role will be based in either our Sydney or Melbourne offices with regional travel occasionally required.
As a Quantity Surveyor you will provide leadership to the commercial team, establishing commercial processes and procedures alongside major main contractors. You will have a proven ability to work independently and excel on major infrastructure projects, reporting into senior professionals with a UK main contractor.
This is a consultancy role and you must therefore be able to demonstrate an ability to work effectively in a client facing environment.
Responsibilities
- To take responsibility for the delivery of professional assignments under the supervision of a senior member of staff.
- Supporting senior team members on key major projects
- Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with the contract
- Preparation of management accounts including project cost and value reporting
- Subcontract procurement and management
- Maintenance of project records
- Change management including raising and valuing variations /compensation events
- A sound working knowledge of various standard forms of contracts
- Preparing material lists, producing bills of quantities for tendering purposes and advising clients on tenders when received
- Administering construction contracts, and measuring and approving progress payments
- Monitoring changes of design, assessing effects on cost, measuring values and negotiating variations to designs
- Assisting with construction claims and dispute resolution matters
- Preparing detailed cost plans and estimates as tools for budgetary control
Individual
- BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying (or similar, a 2:1 or higher preferred)
- A Member of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors or the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (preferred).
- Strong oral/written communication and presentation skills; An excellent organiser with proven time management skills
- Understanding of subcontract administration, tendering and procurement processes
- Presentable and articulate
- Commercial acumen
- Should have experience of (Or have been trained in) the UK construction market along with some international work experience
- Minimum 3-5 years of major infrastructure project experience and Tier 1 main contractor experience
- Must have a sound working knowledge of various forms of contracts including the main forms of Australian Standards and preferably the NEC and JCT forms
- Interested in claims and disputes
